FAIR FUNDING 4 DUNGOG!
Dungog Shire is growing. Our communities are growing. And the roads and infrastructure we rely on every day are under increasing pressure. The only way we can make real and lasting upgrades is through Government funding.
But the way funding is currently allocated means Dungog Shire is missing out.
With a small population and ratepayer base, Council is responsible for an extensive road network that connects our towns and villages, supports agriculture and local businesses, brings visitors to our region and provides access to infrastructure that benefits communities well beyond our Shire.
We don’t expect special treatment. We just want our fair share.
That’s why Dungog Shire Council has launched Fair Funding 4 Dungog, a community advocacy campaign calling for a fairer approach to funding our roads and infrastructure.
WHY FAIR FUNDING MATTERS
Dungog Shire plays a critical role in the future of the Hunter region by supporting regional water security, freight movement, agriculture,
tourism and future housing growth, while protecting significant
environmental assets and rural landscapes.
Every dollar Dungog Shire Council spends maintaining infrastructure is a dollar that ultimately comes from a limited pool of funding.
When government funding doesn’t adequately recognise the size of our road network, our small population, the regional role our roads play and the additional demands placed on them, the impact is felt right across our community.
It affects how quickly we can repair and improve roads. It limits Council’s ability to invest in other community infrastructure and services. And it makes it increasingly difficult to keep pace with the needs of a growing Shire.
This isn’t just a Council problem. It affects all of us.
