ROAD MAINTENANCE BACKLOG

Help us properly fix our roads

Dungog Shire's growing road maintenance backlog is putting increasing pressure on our communities, with short-term, grant-based funding making it difficult to plan and deliver the road improvements our Shire needs.

Dungog Shire Council is responsible for maintaining more than 755 kilometres of roads that connect our towns and villages, support agriculture and freight, provide access to essential services and enable thousands of people to travel across the Hunter region.

However, the current reliance on short-term government grants creates uncertainty and limits Council's ability to undertake long-term road maintenance and infrastructure planning.

As funding falls short of what is needed, essential road upgrades are delayed and our maintenance backlog continues to grow. Roads that could have been repaired earlier require increasingly significant and costly rehabilitation works.

The longer these projects are delayed, the greater the cost of fixing them, and the greater the impact on our community.

This doesn't just affect Dungog residents. Our roads are also important transport corridors for commuters, businesses, freight operators and visitors travelling between neighbouring local government areas.

The following roads are our priority roads requiring urgent State Government funding:
