Our Priorities:

Recategorisation of Major Transport Corridors

These key transport corridors carry significant freight and commuter traffic across the region, connecting communities with major employment centres, industries and the broader transport network, placing demands on Dungog Shire’s road network that extend well beyond the needs of local residents.

Fair Block Grants Funding

The current Block Grant funding model does not adequately recognise the demands that heavy vehicles, agriculture, freight and essential services place on Dungog Shire’s road network, limiting Council’s ability to maintain key routes and plan sustainably for the future.

State Roads to State Significant Assets

Dungog Shire carries a disproportionate financial burden maintaining roads that provide access to critical State infrastructure and natural assets, including water catchments that supply the majority of the Lower Hunter’s drinking water.

Financial Assistance Grants Equity

Dungog Shire’s limited rate base and significant infrastructure responsibilities create higher service delivery pressures that are not adequately recognised under current funding arrangements, making a fairer distribution of Financial Assistance Grants critical to the Shire’s long-term sustainability.

Road Maintenance Backlog

Short-term, grant-based funding makes it difficult to plan and maintain Dungog Shire’s road network strategically, contributing to a growing maintenance backlog that affects both our local communities and those who rely on our roads to travel through the Shire.

Fund Critical Infrastructure Projects to Enable Housing Growth

Investment in critical infrastructure is essential to strengthen Dungog Shire’s resilience, overcome existing infrastructure constraints and support the housing and population growth planned for our communities.
